કમરૂ મોતિયાના માથે હાથ ફેરવવા લાગ્યો. બાજુમાં ઊભેલા પડોશીના હાથમાં બે આના બીજા મૂકતાં કહ્યુઃ ‘લો ભાઈ, આ બે આના, આવતી કાલે સવારે આ મોતિયાને કાલા કંદોઈને ત્યાંથી ગાંઠિયા અપાવી દેજો.’ અને મોતિયાને જાણે ખૂબ દુઃખ થતું હોય એમ એ ઊંહકારા કરવા લાગ્યો. પછી કમરૂ પોતાના હાથ-પગ ધોયા અને ખુદાને, હું મોટો બિઝનેસમેન થઈ જાઉં તો પાછળથી જેમ બીજાના બુદ્ધિ બગડી જાય છે એમ મારી બુદ્ધિને બગાડીને દેતા નહીં. ઓ પરવરદિગાર, આપના બંદા પર રહેમ રાખજો. હું કોઈ દી અનીતિને માગે પૈસા નહીં કમાઉં. કમરૂની બંદગી ચાલુ હતી ત્યારે પેલો મોતિયો બહાર ઓસરીમાં બેસીને કમરૂની સામે ઊંચી ડોક રાખીને જોયા કરતો હતો. થોડા વખતમાં તો આસપાસના પડોશીને ખબર પડી ગઈ કે કમરૂ ગામ છોડીને જાય છે અને બધા કમરૂને ત્યાં ભેગા થયા. કમરૂ જેવો પ્રેમાળ આત્મા ગામ છોડીને ચાલ્યો જાય છે એ જાણીને બધાને ખૂબ દુઃખ થયું કમરૂ બધાને કહેવા લાગ્યોઃ ‘બોલ્યું-ચાલ્યું માફ કરજો. બધા મને દુવા આપો કે હું મોટો બિઝનેસમેન થઈ જાઉં.’ પડોશીઓ સજળ નયને કમરૂને જોઈ રહ્યા.
